Managing Your Diet Effectively

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

Thanks to scientific and nutritional progression, we’re becoming increasingly aware of how our diets affect our bodies. While we’ve always been aware that we need to eat in a certain way to maintain a healthy physique and to condition our bodies as best possible, we’re now becoming more and more knowledgeable in regards to exactly why we should and shouldn’t be eating. So, if you’re looking to manage your diet effectively, here are a few areas you should focus on!

Make Sure Your Calorie Intake is Correct

The first step that you need to take is to ensure that your calorie intake is correct. There are various different recommended calorie intakes listed out there and they will generally vary depending on your age, sex and lifestyle. At the moment, recommended calorie intakes are:

Children aged 2 to 8 - 1000 to 1400 calories

Girls aged 9 to 13 - 1400 to 1600 calories

Boys aged 9 to 13 - 1600 to 2000 calories

Active women aged 14 to 30 - 2400 calories

Sedentary women aged 14 to 30 - 1800 to 2000 calories

Active men aged 14 to 30 - 2800 to 3200 calories

Sedentary men aged 14 to 30 - 2000 to 2600 calories

Active adults over 30 - 2000 to 3000 calories

Sedentary adults over 30 - 1600 to 2400 calories

It’s a good idea to take your BMI and determine whether you are a healthy weight or not. If you are a health weight, stick to these calorie intake guidelines. If you are underweight, you may want to consider increasing your calorie intake. If you are overweight, you may want to consider reducing your calorie intake with a weight loss program.

Concentrate on a Balanced Diet

What many people tend to do when “leading a healthier lifestyle” is to consume only foods that they believe are healthy and that are commonly associated with health. This is often a mistake. Sure, you need plenty of fruit and vegetables in your life, but you need other food groups incorporated into your diet too. Make sure you’re hitting your macros and get to my sufficient carbs and healthy fats in.

Stay Hydrated

Remember you need to consume sufficient water to be healthy too! Staying hydrated is essential to your body’s proper functioning. It keeps your cells healthy and it allows your organs to function properly. It also helps with the health of your skin, hair and eyes. All in all, it’s generally recommended that you drink eight glasses of water every day. You can drink other fluids, but water is generally best as it doesn’t have any unnecessary or unhealthy added ingredients.

Sure, you may need to make a few lifestyle changes in order to lead a healthy life in terms of your diet. But hopefully, the above advice has helped. Start out by focusing on these areas and you’ll be on the right path!
