HANDY WAYS TO KEEP YOURSELF SAFE ONLINE

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

Online safety is an issue we all need to be aware of. With the development of technology in the last 10 years leading to many new online opportunities, it also brings with it a whole lot of risk from hackers and those who want to phish for sensitive information and data.

If you are looking for ways to keep yourself secure and safe online, you may be tempted to download as much software as you can and hire a lawyer such as www.shanklelaw.com to protect you if something happens, but there are plenty of other ways for you to stay safe online. Today we are going to take a look at the things you can do today to help you stay safe online.

1.Secure your social media accounts.

Social media is a huge empire online and it is a place where you share a lot of personal information and have private conversations with your family and friends. When it comes to safety online, this should be one of the first places you visit in order to stay secure. You need to take the time to change all of your passwords to stronger ones, make sure that your privacy settings are correct, and also be sure not to share information such as your phone number or address online.

2. Change your passwords

Whenever you read an article about online safety, you will hear about changing and updating your passwords. Ideally, you should change your passwords every 3 months to keep hackers off your trail, however this is not always a viable option for you. Instead, think about changing your passwords once, but change them to something which will never be worker out. All you need to do is bash your keyboard, see what comes out, and use this as your new password.

3. Encrypt your OS

Your operating system, i.e. Windows 7 or iOS, is the platform you use for all of your computer processes. One of the best things you can do for yourself when working on your computer is to encrypt the OS system and use it in private. Encryption will allow you to browse and work securely and it will ensure that you won’t get hacked.

4. Don’t allow your mobile

When you plug your mobile into your computer to charge up, it is important for you NOT to allow the computer access to the device. A mobile phone can be an easier target for malware, and if this is lying dormant on your phone until you plug it in, it could switch on and invade your computer, damaging it.

5. Cut back on data sharing

Try your best not to share data unless you really have to. When working with your family and friends on various projects, you will be likely to share documents with each other to work efficiently. However, sharing data willy nilly can invite unwanted attention and provide a pathway to your data, so be sure to share sparingly and keep yourself safe and secure online.
