From day to day, how do you feel? If the answer isn’t ‘happy’, then you probably have some work to do on your mindset. Now, these tips are in no way going to cure a serious mental problem such as depression, but they can help you to avoid negative thought patterns, and eventually, feel better about yourself and your life.
Feeling bad about things is pretty pointless. It doesn’t do much, other than make us question everything and put us at war with ourselves. It doesn’t fix any issues. Some people, however, don’t realize they they are addicted to feeling bad, and to negative thought patterns. Why? This can be down to a number of reasons. Some people feel like sharing their problems makes them more interesting, and helps them to bond with others. Let’s face it: when a person is super happy and positive with nothing bad to say about themselves or their lives, people could begin to resent them.
Why do they get to be so happy?
However, letting unhappiness rule you will stop you from enjoying your life and reaching your full potential. Here’s what you can do about it:
You’re Comparing
Flowers and sunsets are two completely different things. They aren't similar in any way, other than the fact that they are both beautiful. You wouldn’t compare them, would you? Beauty comes in all kinds of forms. Somebody else’s beauty doesn’t take away from your own. We’re all unique, and that’s one of the most exciting things about life! Start seeing everything you have that’s positive and unfollow accounts that make you question it if you have to.
You’re Not Spending Enough Time Doing What You Love
Spending time doing what you love is absolutely crucial. Just because you’re not getting paid for it, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be doing it. You never know where it might take you. If your gut is telling you to go back to playing ukulele and teaching yourself songs using Musician Authority, do it. If you feel like you want to start using watercolors again, do it. Whatever you do, don’t let your passions die. Spend time discovering new passions, too!
You’re Trying To Keep Others Happy
Spending too much time trying to keep others happy is a recipe for disaster. Doing nice things for others is fantastic, yes, but you shouldn’t be doing it at the expense of your own happiness and mental health. Learn when to say no, and value your happiness and time as much as you do other people.
Your Mindset Is In The Wrong Place
Maybe you’ve been conditioned to look at the world through a negative lense. It isn’t your fault, but it is if you don’t realize it and work to change it. It’s totally possible to change your mindset and the way you see the world.
You’re Putting Your Happiness At Another Point In The Future
Don’t be one of those people that says things like ‘I’ll be happy when I lose weight’ or ‘I’ll be happy when I get a new job’. Stop delaying your happiness and start being happy now!
